Isn’t it funny how you can read a classic story, written almost 200 years ago, and immediately notice the relevance for today…and specifically for boosting your DIRECT SALES a business?
It was back in the mid-1800s when Russell H Conwell first delivered the story ‘Acres of Diamonds’. Conwell went on to share his story across USA more than 6000 times, until his death in 1925. The premise of the story was about an African farmer who had a rewarding life of a productive and profitable farm, a contented life, the love of his family and a respectable reputation. Yet the farmer sold his farm to go in search of abundance of riches, seeking diamond mines.
The story doesn’t end well for the farmer. He died broken – penniless and lonely – somewhere in a foreign land. However, back on the original farm the new owners discovered diamonds. Acres and Acres of Diamonds, under the very crops that farmer had sown.
The moral of this classic tale is the riches you seek are already around you. When you open your eyes and mine the natural wealth, already in your hands, in your own backyard…. abundance is yours.
So, let’s bring the life lessons from the classic story ‘Acres of Diamonds’ across to you and your Direct Sales business and I encourage you to:

1. MINING YOUR COMMUNITY
You can raise the profile of you and your Direct Sales business in your community by simply doing well to others.
One tip I highly recommend is to read your weekly community newspaper with your business hat on, and look for the opportunities to offer your Direct Selling products or services experience to make life a little easier for someone in need.
Check out your community noticeboard – there’s generally a full page in many local newspapers – and be a guest speaker for clubs that welcome this. Make a date, go along and sharing your Direct Sales products and your journey with your Direct Selling company. Tell your story of why it matters that you make a difference in your community through what you do.
Doing this means you’ll connect with new potential customers for your next demo, group party plan or trunk show, and unearth future bookings and sales.
Now unearthing sparkling gems of opportunity in your community, can happen at the same time as…
2. MINING YOUR DATABASE
I meet an incredible number of consultants and distributors who are constantly chasing the need for more and more brand-new customers.
For goodness sakes; many of you have a complete range of products the existing customers on your existing database are yet to experience. They may have some of your direct sales products, and still they haven’t embraced the full range as yet. If they already love some of your products, it is highly likely they will also enjoy the others!
Be a person of value and where appropriate, lend some of your other products for a number of days and seek feedback in exchange, or provide samples and seek feedback.
When you take notice of the unearthed gems already in your database, you’ll notice them easier and faster through….
3. MINING YOUR BEHAVIOUR
When you dig deep within yourself, it’s time to notice you have everything you need within you for success to happen.
You are more than capable; you ARE enough to create a successful, consistent and growth direct sales business – whether it is party plan groups, demos, trunk shows or online, or a hybrid combination.
